BHOPAL: Union Minister V. Narayanaswamy, Congress general secretary in-charge of Madhya Pradesh affairs, said here on Wednesday that the party had not nominated anyone as Chief Ministerial candidate for the upcoming Assembly elections. With this announcement at a press conference here, Mr. Narayanaswamy sought to set at rest the current controversy over projection of Union Minister Kamal Nath as the next Chief Minister if the Congress comes to power in Madhya Pradesh. His name was reportedly projected by a couple of senior Congress leaders at the party’s Chhindwara rally on August 22. Mr. Narayanaswamy told media persons that the newly-elected Congress MLAs would elect their leader and the final nod would come from the party President Sonia Gandhi. He asked all Congressmen to refrain from making any controversial statement and said he had already talked to former PCC president Subash Yadav and would also be discussing the matter with party general secretary Digvijay Singh in Delhi. At the Chhindwara rally last Friday, senior party leaders Satyavrat Chaturvedi and Jyotiraditya Scindia were prompt in conveying that the party had not chosen anyone as Chief Ministerial candidate.
