Large number of devotees throng Kothamangalam
|
AUSPICIOUS: Priests pouring holy water on kalasams of Sri Soothavaneshwarar Temple at Kothamangalam near Karaikudi on Wednesday.
KARAIKUDI: A large number of devotees from different parts of the State took part in the ‘mahakumbabishekam’ of the Sowntharanayaki Ambal Sametha Soothavaneshwarar alias Thirumeninathar Temple at Kothamangalam near here on Wednesday.
After special pujas, holy water in ‘gadams’ brought from the ‘41 kunda yaga sala’ was poured on the ‘kalasams’ at the auspicious time amidst chanting of mantras and slogans by priests.
The priests led by M.R. Baskara Sivachariyar and R. Ramnathasivam performed special pujas.
Holy water was sprinkled on the devotees, who thronged the temple and nearby places well before the dawn of the day. The devotees got holy ash from the yaga sala. A maha abishekam was performed at the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
The temple was 99 years old. Besides the temple, some of the sculptures were also renovated.
S.A. Chidambaram, honorary trustee, Rm. SP. Ramanathan, president, AR. Kasiviswanathan, secretary of S.S. Kovil Kumbabisheka Committee, CAC. Murugappan and others took part.
