Singur blockade causes concern

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: With the indefinite agitation by the Trinamool Congress and its allies outside the site of the Tata Motors project in Singur entering the fourth day on Wednesday, there is growing concern over the continuing blockade of the expressway passing through the area.

Supplies of foodstuff to the markets are being affected, giving rise to fears of scarcity and price rise. “Before taking recourse to the law and resorting to police intervention we are trying to resolve the impasse through talks,” Home Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakravarty said.

Representatives of various truck owners’ associations visited Singur and held talks with senior Trinamool Congress leaders in a bid to resolve the deadlock.
