New MoES Secretary

NEW DELHI: Director of the Hyderabad-based Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services , Shailesh Nayak on Wednesday assumed charge as the Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences on Wednesday.

A geologist by training, Dr. Nayak is an internationally recognised authority in the area of remote sensing. He was with the Indian Space Research Organisation for over two decades before joining the INCOIS in May 2006.

He is a key person behind the development of the government’s tsunami warning system, which is housed in the INCOIS. Dr. Nayak replaces T. Ramasami, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology.
