MOSCOW: Russia has accused the U.S. and NATO of rearming Georgia and whipping up tension by sending its warships to the Black Sea. “What the Americans call humanitarian cargoes are, of course, weapons they are bringing in [to Georgia],” said Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev in an interview. Even as Mr. Medvedev said Moscow would not try to block military supplies, the Russian General Staff said Russian warships were “monitoring the activities of NATO ships.” Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff, General Anatoly Nogovitsyn, accused NATO of “ratcheting up tension” in the Black Sea.
