Shruti Khanna slipped to third as she shot a 7-over for the round Lavery played an error-free golf through the front nine Chennai: Lavery Kumar maintained her lead in the gold division of the Madras Ladies Golf Championships, after a four-over-par 76 in Wednesday’s second round, with a total of 151 and a four-stroke lead over second-placed Neha Tripathi. Shruti Khanna slipped to third as she shot a 7-over for the round. Lavery played an error-free golf through the front nine, her scoring graph a straight line with two kinks in opposite directions — a birdie on the second and a bogey on the ninth. That bogey began sequence of four. On the ninth, tenth and eleventh, she landed in bunkers adjoining the greens, her iron shots veering left of their ideal trajectory. On the twelfth, she had to make an additional low, skimming shot to avoid a tree branch after her tee shot had pulled left and into the rough. She recovered thereafter, a well-judged approach lob giving her a birdie on the par-five sixteenth, and, on the eighteenth, a 20-yard putt curling inches wide of the hole nearly earned her another. The standings (after second round): Gold Division: Open (gross scores): 1. Lavery Kumar (Delhi) 151, 2. Neha Tripathi (Kolkata) 155, 3. Shruti Khanna (Delhi) 156. Handicap (nett scores): 1.
