NEW DELHI: The Indian Cricket League (ICL) on Wednesday signed a 10-year agreement with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) for the Navrangpura Sardar Patel Stadium. As per the agreement, ICL will spend Rs. 10 crore to upgrade the stadium, which will include floodlights apart from top quality outfield, pitch, dressing rooms, spectator stands and common areas. Total revampDuring the tenure of the contract, the ICL plans to revamp the stadium completely to give Ahmedabad a modern stadium with international level playing facility and infrastructure. The ICL Executive Board chairman, Kapil Dev, said, “I broke Richard Hadlee’s world record in Ahmedabad. Gujarat has always bestowed its revered support on me as a player and I would like to reciprocate the love and affection by bringing a vibrant and sporting ICL which will be an enriching experience for the fans of Gujarat.” The forthcoming ICL Twenty20 championship will have a home team named Ahmedabad Rockets for the Gujarat fans. The team, comprising young skilful players from Gujarat and overseas superstars, underwent strenuous training recently in Bangalore. The new ICL season begins on October 10 and a total of 34 matches, with a best-of-three finals, will be played at four grounds across the country.
