Four held on charges of burglary

KOCHI: Ernakulam Town central police arrested four persons from different places on Tuesday night on charges of attempted burglary. Thankachan, 28, of Polakkulam Veedu, Vytilla, was arrested from near the BSNL Office at Kalathiparambu Road at around 2.45 a.m. with a crowbar in possession. The accused has burglary cases registered against him at Central, South and Panangad police stations.

Anish, 23, of Mantrapallipadam Veedu, Ravipuram, was arrested from near Jos Electricals at C.P. Ummer Road at 4 a.m. He was carrying a hack-saw blade and a hammer with him at the time of arrest.

Four cases including one for robbing mobile phone and stealing motorbikes are pending against the accused at Central police station, besides cases for stealing motorbikes registered in Panangad and Kadavantra police stations.

Manikantan, 33, also known as ‘Kolacha’ Manikantan, of Puthenchirayil Veedu, Valiyathura, Thiruvananthapuram, was arrested while attempting to break into an automobile godown at C.P. Ummer Road. He has many cases registered for pickpocketing in various police stations in the city.

Suresh, 34, also known as ‘Padma’ Suresh, of Parakunnel Veedu, Kadakkavoor, Thiruvananthapuram, was arrested near Jos Electricals at Valanjambalam with a crowbar.

All the accused were arrested by the special crime squad led by Circle Inspector G. Venu and sub-inspector V.S. Navas, as instructed by P.M. Varghese, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ernakulam, to check increase of crime during Onam season.
