Opposition leaders lambast Minister for ‘fudging’ statistics Naidu counters Raghuveera’s claims on foodgrain output
HYDERABAD: Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy found himself in a spot in the Assembly Wednesday over short supply of fertilizer in the State, as Opposition parties flayed the government for inaction in the issue.
Responding to a question tabled by D. Narendra Kumar (TDP), the Minister quoted statistics to deny that there was a fertilizer shortage in the State. He said more quantity of fertilizer, indeed, was supplied to farmers than required this year.
His claim was vociferously refuted by E. Rajender (TRS), N. Narsimhaiah (CPI-M) and Ch. Venkat Reddy (CPI) who contended that the ground reality was different. They lambasted the Minister for misleading the House with “fudged statistics.”
Leader of the Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu and Mr. Narendra Kumar challenged the Minister that they could prove their charge if he only visited any village of his choice along with them. Mr Naidu countered him, saying if the Minister’s claim on record food grain production saying that if that was true, the price of rice would not have been so high.
