Qualifiers spotted

TIRUPATI: Qualifiers were spotted in the men’s singles and doubles segments of the Andhra Pradesh State senior badminton championship at Sri Srinivasa Sports Complex here on Wednesday.

Ravi Raju, Ch. Sanyasi Rao, Naveen (Vizag), Vijaya Kumar Reddy, Ch. Suresh (Hyderabad), Sriram, K.J.M.S. Avinash and B.R.K. Mouli (Chittoor) made it to the singles main draw.

In the men’s doubles Chittoor pairs Sriram and Avinash and Gopinath and Nagendra made it to the main draw.

With junior internationals Sikki Reddy and Guru Sai Dutt away at Australia on a training stint, the championship has lost some of its sheen.

Hyderabad’s Vikram Reddy and P.V. Sindhu, both junior shuttlers are the top seeds in singles in their respective segments which brings to fore absence of experienced players.

The AP teams, to take part in the senior Nationals to be held at Indore (Madhya Pradesh) will selected on the concluding day. The main draw will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, after the inauguration by B. Karunakar Reddy, chairman, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam.

Sanyani Raju (Vsp) bt Eswara Rao (Vzm) 30-16, K. J.M.S Avinash (Ctr) bt Radhakrishna (Vsp) 30-24, Ch. Suresh (Hyd) bt D.S. Raju (Vzm) 30-23, B.R.K. Mouli (Ctr) bt Trinadh (Vzm) 30-20, Naveen (Vsp) w/o Joseph (Atp).

Doubles: Sriram & Avinash (Ctr) bt Mouli & Krishna (Ctr) 30-19, Gopinath & Nagendra (Ctr) bt G. Sunil & A. Venkateswara Rao (Wg) 30-29.
