MACHILIPATNAM: Krishna district Collector Shailaja Ramaiyer on Thursday stressed the need for introducing new and relevant courses to create professionals who could meet the requirements in public health sector. She was addressing a one-day seminar on “Importance of New Courses in Public Health”, organised at Rotary Hall under the joint auspices of Machilipatnam Rotary Club and the newly-formed Krishna University. Ms. Ramaiyer said not many courses were available on public health at present, which resulted in a gap in meeting the requirements. She wanted new developments to take place in the field of public health so that the general public would be able to enjoy better sanitation and facilities in rural areas. Health insuranceMs. Ramaiyer said courses on the subject of health insurance would be greatly beneficial to students, as there was a lot of awareness being generated among the people about their health needs. Krishna University Vice-Chancellor M.K. Durga Prasad said that the university was established with the sole aim of increasing opportunities in higher education for students as a part of the recommendations by the National Knowledge Commission. Principals and lecturers of various colleges spoke on various subjects relating to science, arts and methodologies.
