The language of the State will also be revised to Odia BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution stating that the name of the State be revised from Orissa to Odisha in First Schedule of the Constitution. The House also resolved that the name of the language of the State should be revised from Oriya to Odia in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. The resolution that was passed unanimously also said that Hindi translation of Odisha and Odia should be revised accordingly. A proposal in this regard was approved by the State Cabinet on June 9 this year. The House resolved to authorise the State government to place the matter before the Central Government for change of the names of the State and language and change of its Hindu translation. The name of the state and its language that was mis-spelt in the records of colonial administration had remained unchanged in the First Eighth Schedule of the Constitution as well.
