Archbishop to meet Governor

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Expressing concern over the sporadic incidents of violence against the Christian community in different parts of Karnataka of late, Archbishop of Bangalore Rev. Bernard Moras has decided to meet Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Governor Rameshwar Thakur to urge them to take steps to stop it.

Rev. Moras said such incidents had been reported in the State only in recent days. “We do not know what is the cause for such violence. We want the Chief Minister to take steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents and keep his word of protecting us (An assurance which was made when Mr. Yeddyurappa called on the Archbishop for the first time), he said.

Such violence had been reported mostly from Mangalore, Davangere and some districts of north Karnataka.

When his attention was drawn to allegations of conversion, he said: “Nobody should indulge in forcible conversion. Conversion is not our work. If somebody wants to convert by choice, it is his or her decision. But all forcible conversions have to be condemned.”
