It sought more time to complete work on the abattoir at Iglur, near Anekal BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday dismissed an interlocutory application by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) seeking more time to complete work on the slaughterhouse at Iglur near Anekal. The BBMP had sought time saying that the residents of Iglur and surrounding areas had protested against the construction of the abattoir and even demolished a compound wall. The petitioner, B. Krishna Bhat, who is a resident of Bangalore, had filed a public interest litigation (PIL) petition seeking expeditious shifting of the slaughterhouse from Tannery Road to Iglur. He said that the authorities had not taken steps to comply with court orders asking for the slaughterhouse to be shifted. When the matter came up, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran and Justice V. Gopala Gowda observed that though the BBMP had attempted to follow the court directions, the State had not shown enough interest in the issue. AdjournedA Division Bench comprising Justice V. G. Sabhahit and Justice Satnarayana adjourned further hearing on a petition by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) challenging a State Government order directing it to change the alignment of the road, being built under the Mysore-Bangalore Expressway corridor project at Gottigere, near Bangalore. NICE had said that the State had deliberately changed the alignment and asked for the road to be built over the Gottigere lake. Affidavit soughtJustice D. V. Shylendra Kumar on Thursday directed some of the hotel owners who had challenged the refusal by the State to permit women to serve liquor in bars and restaurants to file an affidavit. The hotel owners had challenged Rule 9 (1) of the Excise Act, prohibiting employment of women in establishments where liquor is served. Compensation enhancedA Division Bench comprising Justice K.L. Manjunath and Justice A.S. Pachhapure on Thursday enhanced compensation given in a motor vehicle case from Rs. 21 lakh to Rs. 29 lakh. The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) had awarded a compensation of Rs. 21 lakh to Lakshmipathy and his wife Nalina for the death of their son Venkatesh Prasad in a road accident in Jagtap village in 2001. The parents had sought a compensation of Rs. 1 crore, saying that their son was a doctor.
