dated August 29, 1958: Border issues

The Commonwealth Secretary, Mr. M.J. Desai, is leaving for Karachi on August 28 to discuss the border incidents with his opposite number in Pakistan. He is being accompanied by the representatives of the governments of East Punjab, West Bengal, Assam and Tripura, all of which have had their quota of border problems. The principal instruction which Mr. Desai carries is that a settlement of the border issues should be sought, having in view the fact that ultimately, friendship must prevail between the two countries.
