Thulasi, Gowri adjudged best

MANNARGUDI: V. Thulasi and A. Gowri were adjudged best lifters in the men’s and women’s sections respectively at the State junior weightlifting championships, conducted by Tiruvarur District Weightlifting Association, here recently.

Bishop Heber, St. Joseph’s College qualify

Bishop Heber College and St. Joseph’s College qualified for the Bharathidasan University inter-zone cricket tournament from the Tiruchi division, after having won their respective semifinal encounters at Tiruchi on Thursday.

The scores: Semifinals: Urumu Dhanalakshmi College 132 for nine in 25 overs lost to St. Joseph’s College 133 for nine in 24.5 overs (E.M. Jose Mithun 63).

Bishop Heber College 211 for three in 25 overs (Suresh 101, Sudhakar 42) bt Kongu Arts and Science College 121 in 24.2 overs (Jagadeesh 42).

Karikalan sizzles

MAM Polytechnic College defeated Shivani Polytechnic College 2-0 to win the title at the IPAA inter-polytechnic college (Tiruchi division) football tournament recently. Karikalan was the scorer.

Chess tournament

The 4 Knights Chess Academy will conduct a chess tournament on August 30 and 31 at Urumu Dhanalakshmi College, Tiruchi. The event will be conducted in the under-17, 13, 11, 9, 7 and open categories.
