NEW DELHI: Industries Minister Elamaram Karim on Thursday announced that the State government would invest Rs.25,000 crore in the next three years for improving infrastructure such as roads, industrial parks, power and ports. The exchequer would save money from the tax revenue and utilise it for infrastructure development, he told mediapersons here. The Minister, who had an interactive session with industrialists here on developing Kerala as an industrial State and its strategy of growth with employment, said more and more industries were coming to the State due to the thrust on industrial development by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government. Particularly those in tourism, electronics, textiles and information technology sectors were showing interest in setting up shop in the State, he said and added that the government had set a target to bring industrial investment worth Rs.10,000 crore during 2008-09. The target would be Rs.15,000 crore for 2009-10 and Rs.20,000 crore for the year that followed. Remarkable growth in infrastructure, change in attitude towards strike by trade unions and harmonious industrial atmosphere were some of the reasons for the State to get more investments, he said. Besides, the State was connected by three international airports in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode. The fourth one was coming up in Kannur. Besides, two international airports – Mangalore and Coimbatore – were near the State border. Above all, the State was well connected by ports. The Minister hoped the industrial development in Kerala would see a big push in the days to come.
