Youth hacked to death in in-laws’ house

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A youngster, who married his lover against the wishes of her family members seven months ago, was hacked to death in his in-laws’ house allegedly by his father-in-law and others at Dilsukhnagar on Thursday.

The 22-year-old victim V. Raju’s father-in-law, Anil Babu, and three of his associates later walked into the Saroornagar police station confessing to the brutal killing. In-laws of Raju had been reportedly inviting him and his wife Uma Rani to their house stating that they accepted their marriage and wanted to bury the hatchet for the past few days. According to the police, they reportedly told Raju that they wanted to gift a bike for him and some jewellery for Uma Rani marking acceptance of the marriage. Trusting them, Raju took his wife to their house in Vidyutnagar of Dilsukhnagar even as she raised doubts over their intentions.

The in-laws took Raju to a vehicle showroom at Moosarambagh, bought the vehicle and brought him back home around 5 p.m. By then, woman members of the family took out Uma Rani for shopping.

Soon after entering the house, Anil Babu and his associates, Vamshi, Purushottam, Chinna Vasmshi and Hari Krishna, attacked Raju with knives inflicting multiple injuries on him.

They later surrendered to the police. Anil Babu alleged that Raju kidnapped his daughter when she was a minor and forcibly married her.

“We were planning to get her married again but Raju was demanding lakhs of rupees,” he told the police.

A city finance company executive, Raju of Vaddera Basthi in Yellareddyguda fell in love with Uma Rani during her visits to the house of her aunt Hemalata of the same locality.

They eloped in June 2007 and got married in Arya Samaj at Rajahmandry. But Uma Rani was a minor then.

Based on a complaint filed by her parents, the S.R. Nagar police registered a case of girl missing then.

Uma Rani returned to the S.R. Nagar police station on January 26, 2008, claiming that she was a major and willingly married Raju. The couple started living in a rented house in Vaddera basthi.

“It is learnt that Uma Rani’s father forcibly took her to his house and forced her to cancel her marriage in the past few months but she wanted to live with Raju,” the police said. Later, he allegedly hatched a plot to kill Raju and invited him to his house, they added.
