10 to 12 per cent hike in bus fares

The increase comes into effect from Thursday midnight


Bangalore: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSTRC), the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, the North-West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation and North-East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation have increased their bus fares between 10 and 12 per cent from August 28 midnight, a press release said.

While those who are using ordinary bus services will have to pay 10 per cent more, those using other services will have to pay 12 per cent more.

In a press release, the KSTRC has claimed that in spite of the increase, it will still be one of the public transport corporations levying low passenger fares in the country.

BMTC

The BMTC has increased the bus fare by Rs. 1 for city, suburban and Pushpak services from the third stage. For city services, commuters have to pay Rs. 7 as against the old fare of Rs. 6. For the suburban services the bus fare has increased to Rs. 7 (from Rs. 6) and for the Pushpak services to Rs. 8 (from Rs. 7).

The following are the revised stage-wise rates for city services with the old fares mentioned in the bracket: Stage four Rs. 8 (Rs. 7), Stage five Rs. 9 (Rs. 8), Stages six to nine Rs. 10 (Rs. 9), Stages ten to thirteen Rs. 11 (Rs. 10) and Stages eleven and twelve Rs. 12 (Rs. 11).

There has been similar increase in fares for sub-urban and Pushpak services.

Some of the routes on which there has been fare increase from Rs. 9 to Rs. 10 are: Kempegowda Bus Station to Kamalagara BEML Layout; Kempegowda Bus Station to Indiranagar; Kempegowda Bus Station to Srinagar; Kempegowda Bus Station to Jalahalli Cross; Kempegowda Bus Station to BEML Layout Complex; Kempegowda Bus Station to Koramangala; Kempegowda Bus Station to Peenya 2nd Stage; Kempegowda Bus Station to Yelahanka; K.R. Market to Padmanabhanagar; K.R. Market to Madiwala; K.R. Market to Konanakunte Cross; K.R. Market to Jeevanbimanagar; K.R. Market to Sunkadakatte; K.R. Market to K.R. Puram Railway Station; K.R. Market to Thalghattapura; K.R. Market to Hebbal; K.R. Market to Hosa Road; Shivajinagar Bus Station to J.P. Nagar 6th Phase; and Banashankari Bus Station to Kengeri.

Following are the routes on which the bus fare has remained at Rs. 5: Kempegowda Bus Station to Corporation; Kempegowda Bus Station to Vidhana Soudha/ Indian Express; K.R. Market to Cauvery Bhavan; Kempegowda Bus Station to Magadi Road Toll Gate; Kempegowda Bus Station to Malleswaram; K.H. Road to Shivajinagar Bus Station; K.R. Market to Jagajeevanramnagar; K.R. Market to MCTC Bus Station; K.R. Market to Gandhi Bazar; Shivajinagar to J.C. Nagar; Shivajinagar to Coles Park; Ulsoor to Shivajinagar; Austin Town to Shivajinagar; Banashankari Bus Station to Konanakute Cross; Kengeri to Anchepalya; Kengeri to Bangalore University Gate; Kengeri to Kengeri Satellite Town; Mallathahalli to Nagarabhavi Circle; Dodda Aladamara to Chandrappa Circle; and Vijayanagara to Moodalapalya.
