VISAKHAPATNAM: Round-the-clock armed guard, consisting of seven constables headed by an Assistant Sub-Inspector, has been posted at Kodavtipudi in Kotavuratla mandal and peace is prevailing in the village, according to a press release from the office of Superintendent of Police here on Thursday. It may be recalled that SC families were attacked by a 200-stong mob consisting of persons belonging to upper castes on August 21 . A case has been registered under Sections 147, 148, 149 and 324 of IPC along with Sec. 3 (x) (xi) of SCs and STs (prevention of atrocities ) Act, and 11 accused, including the main accused Chitti Babu, son of village Sarpanch, have been arrested on August 24. They have been remanded to judicial custody. Earlier the Assistant Superintendent of Police (Narsipatnam) and Inspector (Narsipatnam) visited the village . The Revenue officials, including the Revenue Divisional Officer of Narsipatnam, had also visited the village and assured the victims of relief and help. All suitable actions have been taken regarding the incident in the interest of justice and security, the release added. A group of CPI (M) activists staged a demonstration and later stormed the office of the Divisional Forest Officer at Narsipatnam on Thursday in protest against norms followed for distribution of forestland to poor tribals.
