Prized commodity: Contrary to claims of the State Government denying shortage of fertilizer, the picture above says it all. Policemen preventing some farmers from trying to take away fertilizer bags from a truck at Kurnool on Thursday. KURNOOL: Farmers led by the Raithu Sangham staged a ‘rasta roko’ and held up traffic for three hours on the busy New Bus Stand road, protesting against the shortage of fertilizer here on Thursday. Vehicle users were inconven- ienced as they were caught in the traffic jam for three hours. The police had a tough time clearing the traffic and restoring the movement of vehicles. Meanwhile, the police registered a case in connection with the looting of fertilizer from a truck on Wednesday in the city. The police said that of the 240 bags of fertilizer, nearly 100 bags were recovered while the rest could not be traced. Outsiders were believed to have taken advantage of the situation and taken away the bags. Meanwhile, the Raithu Sangham leaders said fertilizer shortage was hitting paddy transplantation and other crops.
