Anganwadis picket Collector’s office
Correspondent
VIZIANAGARAM: Anganwadi workers and helpers picketed the Office of the Collector for over three hours on Friday demanding a Government order on the assured enhancement of their wages and also the regular disbursal of salaries. They raised slogans against the Government’s indifference towards their problems. General secretary of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union M. Uma Maheswari told reporters that the Government had announced in the Budget session this year that their salaries would be enhanced soon. But, the Government had not done so even after five months . She said that anganwadis, who are playing a key role in rural and urban areas, were not being paid salaries for the last four months. She also demanded that the proposal to hand over anganwadis and helpers to either voluntary organizations or gram samakhyas be dropped. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the District Revenue Officer.
