Temples to get facelift

Staff Reporter

Kakinada: The Endowments Department has embarked on an ambitious project of developing important temples in the State at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore, with no government funding. The entire expenditure will be met by pooling up financial resources of the temples and apportioned, according to priorities identified by top officials.

Being a Non-Plan department, the Endowments Department is not eligible to draw even a single rupee from the government. Instead it collects up to three percent of the incomes of all temples for their monthly expenses and additional sums for the Common Good Fund (CGF) which is used for major development works. Even our salaries are paid from the contributions of temples, Regional Joint Commissioner of Endowments S Kondala Rao said.
