Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: Elaborate arrangements for the Sri Shodasa Ganapathi Yaga Mahotsavam christened “Sri Shodasa Ganapathi Yatra-2008, Vizianagaram” are in place at Motilal Modi Gardens, Gantyada Road. The yaga mahotsavam will begin with ‘Prana pratishta’ of all the 16 (shodasa) forms of Lord Ganapathi on Sunday. Visitors to the venue on Friday found the idols of Shodasa Ganapathis in diverse forms in mud and clay taking shape, in addition to illustrations in idol forms on the birth of Sri Ganapathi, His penning of Mahabharat, killing of demon Mushikasura, and lastly the ‘Viswa roopam’ of the elephant-head God in separate enclosures. At the centre, a huge hut was built for performing yagam. The yagam is being conducted for world peace besides ‘Graha shanti’ and ‘Sarva Karya Siddhi’ of the participating devotees. Some 40 Rithviks from across the State will take part in the yagam that ends on Sept 21.

The yatra was first celebrated at Koraput in Orissa in 2006, said Dinesh Modi, the organiser.
