Kakinada: BJP district president K. Sarvarayudu has called upon the party cadres to strive for success of ‘Sankalp Yatra’, which is entering the district on September 26. He told them to take the party closer to the people by listing out its achievements and failures of the Congress Governments. Addressing the party workers at Pithapuram on Friday, Mr. Sarvarayudu said concerted efforts should be made to strengthen the party in the run-up to 2009 elections. The hollowness of the claims made by the Congress party has to be exposed while driving home the message that BJP was committed to the people’s welfare and it has taken tangible steps for their well-being during the tenure of NDA. Mr. Sarvarayudu said that Pithapuram MLA Pendem Dorababu has betrayed people’s aspirations and that of the party by charting his own political course. His actions made a dent in the party in the constituency, he observed while passing a resolution condemning his anti- party activities. BJP leaders Chintapalli Padma Reddy, M. Prabhakar Sastry and S. Ramajogi were among those present. SEZIn a press release, Mr. Sarvarayudu appealed to Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi to convene a meeting of the anti-SEZ organisations and political parties to settle the contentious issues pertaining to land acquisition and livelihoods of the project-affected people. He alleged that the police were implicating the villagers in false cases to clear the way for the SEZ. Core issues like the alleged acquisition of agricultural lands should be addressed immediately if the situation were to remain peaceful, he said. Mr. Sarvarayudu said that various strictures passed by the State Human Rights Commission were being ignored.
