33 p.c. BCs quota sought in A.P.

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Friday adopted a resolution unanimously requesting the Centre to amend the Constitution to provide 33.3 per cent reservation for the Backward Classes (BCs) in the Assembly and Lok Sabha.

The resolution, moved by Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy in tune with a decision taken recently by the Cabinet, was welcomed by all the Opposition parties.

But the debate ended on a sour note following a fracas between Telugu Desam and Congress members, each claiming to be the real champion of the BCs.

This led to abrupt adjournment of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.
