This Day That Age
An indication that the formulation of the import licensing policy for the next licensing period (October, 1958 – March, 1959) may be delayed by a few weeks was given by Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, while inaugurating the meeting of the Import Advisory Council in New Delhi on August 30. Mr. Shastri added that, exceptional cases apart, there was no prospect of any liberalisation of imports, as “our position to-day is somewhat more difficult than it was six months ago.” In the normal course, the import policy for the next period was due to be announced at the end of September.
