VISAKHAPATNAM: Police are on the lookout for a woman who allegedly cheated 400 chit holders to the tune of Rs.60 lakhs. The accused K.V. Ranga lakshmi, wife of Venkata Rao, staying at Dondaparthy had been operating chits for the last 10 years. She started first with 25 members and as business grew the membership swelled to 400. The members pay Rs.100 a month and take back Rs.1,500 at the end of 12 months. She started delaying payment of matured chits and this made chit holders suspicious. When they insisted on payment, she left for Vizianagaram on Saturday along with her family on the pretext of attending a wedding . The chit holders pressed the panic button when she did not return. On Friday, some of her relatives came to the house and tried to take away some clothes from her house, according to the victims. Fourth Town CI M. Srinivasa Rao is investigating. 2 Lankan boats seizedTwo Sri Lankan fishing boats were seized and 11 crew members apprehended by personnel of the Indian Coast Guard Ship Sagar while patrolling the exclusive economic zone of India, 42 nautical miles south east of Visakhapatnam harbour on Friday. According to Coast Guard (District No. 6) Deputy Commandant Lalima Sharma, the two Sri Lankan boats were directed to head towards the ship and on investigation it was found that the crew were fishing without any licences/permit and the nets were down in water for fishing. While one of the boats ‘Chamari Dum’ had five crew members, the other ‘Samudra Dev Mata’ had six. The boats and the 11 crew members were detained and escorted to Visakhapatnam and handed over to the harbour police. Body foundThe body of an unidentified woman was found at Bheemunipatnam in the district on Friday. According to Bheemunipatnam SI M.V. Ganesh, the woman was wearing a black chudidhar. She had a tattoo of a tree on her right hand. Newborn abandonedA newly-born baby was found abandoned near the Kali temple on the Beach Road on Friday. According to the Three Town police, the unidentified baby was rushed to hospital in the EMRI 108 ambulance and was reportedly out of danger.
