Meeting held between the principals
Students selection in January-February 2009 PUDUCHERRY: All set to launch a new section of excellence in Sciences for English-speaking Indian students and those of other nationalities next year, Lycee Francais of Pondicherry will soon ink a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lycee Louis le Grand of Paris, a higher secondary school in France. As a step towards it, a three-day meeting was held between the principals of the two schools along with teachers of mathematics and sciences from August 26 to 28. “The MoU will formalise the collaboration between the two schools on preparing the scientific selection test and curriculum of the new class of excellence in sciences at the Lycee Francais of Pondicherry from July 2009,” Project Manager Brigitte Maury said. Students from Standard VIII would be selected for the new class in January and February 2009. The dates of selection test and interview would be announced soon and would be organised in different Indian cities, she added. In addition to this, the two principals and teachers interacted with teachers of mathematics and sciences of Pondicherry University, Kendriya Vidyalaya in JIPMER Campus to come up with scientific programmes and obtain information about the background of the students. They also visited the Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering and Technology, Puducherry and Sri Aurobindo Ashram International School to get an overview of the systems of education in Puducherry. The groups had worked with Indian Institute of Technology and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research examinations to build a high level advanced scientific programmes for the four-year new class of science, Ms. Maury said and added that the MoU was prepared and would be signed soon. In fact, the Lycee Louis le Grand, Paris had launched a similar programme in Abu Dhabi this year. The Lycee Francais of Pondicherry was one of the oldest of 430 affiliated French academic institutions in 152 countries. Principal of Lycee Francais of Pondicherry Eric Compan and Principal of Lycee Louis le Grand of Paris Joel Vallat took part in the meeting along with teachers of the institutions.
