Pattas for tank beds occupied during “struggle for land” programme Action sought against those who occupied ‘Vallabadi cheruvu’ VIZIANAGARAM: The CPI (M) divisional committee has planned “Chalo RDO Office” on September 1 to demand pattas for the tank beds occupied by the poor during the “struggle for land” programme in the past. Addressing a press conference on Saturday, the party divisional secretary Reddy Sankara Rao said though Congress workers and leaders were occupying tank beds and converting them into house-sites, revenue officials were not taking any action but at the same time the officials registered cases against the poor who occupied tank beds in the past on the plea that it was a violation of Supreme Court order. Recently, the State Cabinet had approved allotment of two-and-half acres of Erra cheruvu tank bed land at Babametta to one community but denied pattas to the poor who occupied Dekkina Cheruvu last year, he said. The officials made no attempt to complain against Congress workers, who grabbed five-and-half acres of Vallabadi cheruvu in Dharmapuri panchayat, although, at the same time, they rejected the appeal of locals for allotment of land for construction of a temple on the dried up tank bed. Quoting many more instances in which Congressmen were involved, Mr. Sankar Rao alleged that K. Veerabhadra Swamy, MLA, had even laid a road through Komati Cheruvu. He also alleged that the Vizianagaram Tehsildar was acting like a ‘stooge’ of the Congress. He demanded that the Cabinet take a decision on the dried up tank beds and issue house-site pattas to the poor. D. Durga Rao, executive committee member of the party was present.
