GULBARGA: The State Government has introduced several steps to introduce financial discipline and accountability in all urban local bodies, particularly city corporations, the main one being the appointment of an accountant in each city corporation. Director of Municipal Administration Anjum Parvez told The Hindu here on Saturday that qualified accountants recruited by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) were being posted to the corporations. The Government had also decided to introduce professional auditing of accounts of the corporations to ensure transparency in the accounting system, he said. Mr. Anjum said Karnataka had introduced a fund-based accounting system, which would ensure that the plans of the city corporations were based on the availability of funds, and a balance sheet of accrual of funds and schemes proposed to be taken up would be prepared to ensure transparency in the administration. He said that the city corporations had also been asked to prepare a list of their assets and liabilities.
