For peace: An Islamic scholar addressing women at a convention in Chitradurga on Saturday. Chitradurga: Islam is completely against any form of terrorism. Those who preach, propagate or advocate terrorism are not Muslims. This was the crux of the daylong Women’s Islamic Convention organised by the Chitradurga-based Darul Uloom Khadriya Educational Academy at Tipu Mahal here on Saturday. The convention was on the topic “Islam for peace, not for terrorism”. Addressing presspersons, Shabeena Biyabani, a lecturer, regretted that Islam had received a dual blow. On the one hand, it was not being rightly portrayed by Muslim leaders, and on the other, a few people with anti-Islamic tendencies were defaming the religion. “Owing to the handiwork of a few people, today the entire Muslim community has been branded ‘cruel and inhuman’, whose members only believe in killing. Islam is certainly not a religion that preaches hatred and communal disharmony. In fact, it preaches peace, tranquillity and respect for other religions,” she said. ‘Blessed people’Ms. Biyabani said Prophet Mohammed, in his lifetime, never preached killing of innocent people. “The Prophet blessed people who tortured and tormented him, but never practised vengeance,” she said. Amreen Taj, another lecturer, said Muslim youths were being misled by a few selfish people who had nothing to do with true Islam. Expressing grave concern over women embracing terrorism as suicide bombers, she termed it a dangerous trend for Muslims and humanity. “In Islam, committing suicide is considered a great sin,” she said. Invitees from Andhra Pradesh and various parts of Karnataka were present.
