Scrutiny of nominations in 90 urban bodies

Single nominations were filed in 11 wards

BHUBANESWAR: Scrutiny of nomination papers filed by candidates in 90 urban local bodies (ULBs), which are going to poll on September 19, was completed.

According to a statement released by the State Election Commission, as many as 6629 nomination papers filed by candidates were found to be valid while 209 papers were rejected on various grounds.

Election officers on Saturday published names of candidates whose nominations were valid.

These candidates could withdraw their candidature by Monday, the commission said.

Similarly scrutiny in respect of the Balasore Municipality would be held on September 1 and for Phulbani Municipality and G. Udayagiri, which were hit by communal violence, the scrutiny would take place on September 5, the State Election Commission said.

“Out of the total 1522 wards, no nomination was filed for three wards.

They are one each in Keonjhar and Rairangpur Municipality and Pattamundai Notified Area Council,” the release said.

It said single nomination papers were filed in 11 wards. The wards where single nomination was filed were Berhampur Municipality (one), Chikiti NAC (3), Aska NAC (1), Buguda NAC (1), Ganjam NAC (2), Pursottampur NAC (1), Balunga NAC (1), and Binika NAC (1). About 25,05,296 voters will cast their votes in 2797 booths .
