Woman critical after drinking insecticide in Rural SP’s office

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A 28-year-old woman, who had to come to file a complaint, attempted suicide on the premises of the office of the Superintendent of Police (Bangalore Rural) on Friday.

The police said Manjula, a resident of Govinahalli in Tymagundulu police station limits, abandoned by her husband Hanumantappa, had come to meet the Superintendent of Police to complain that Hanumantappa was getting ready to marry again.

Before she could meet the Superintendent of Police, Manjula consumed insecticide near the main gate of the office. Some persons saw her vomiting and rushed her to Bowring Hospital.

The High Grounds police described her condition as critical.

Mobile snatched

Two motorcycle-borne men stole a mobile phone from an army officer in Jayanagar 9th Block on Thursday night. Though he failed to get help in nabbing the culprits, the police said the phone has been traced to Rajajinagar.

Major S. Jayaprakash, a resident of Jayanagar 9th Block, was returning after attending a party near his house around 10 p.m.

He was speaking into his mobile phone while he was walking back to his house. “Suddenly they came behind me and snatched my mobile phone. Before I could react, the two went away in the motorcycle. I could not make out the vehicle registration number in the dark,” he said.

Mr. Jayaprakash started to run behind the vehicle. “I asked for help of three motorcyclists to catch the culprits. But they did not respond,” he said.

Giving up his chase, Mr. Jayaprakash went to the nearby Tilak Nagar police and lodged a complaint, mentioning the IMEI number of the handset. “Senior police officers called me to assure them of their help. The police have traced the mobile phone to Rajajinagar.”
