Saffron seized

MALAPPURAM: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials seized 30 kg of saffron from a passenger who reached Karipur from Sharjah on Saturday morning.

The saffron was hidden in the baggage in 60 packets of 500 gm each. Sameer Kadankunnel, who arrived at Karipur on Air India flight IC 598 at 10.40 a.m., was rounded up by DRI officers on a tip-off.

The Iranian made Zabihi brand of saffron would fetch Rs. 30 lakh in the Indian market. —Staff Reporter
