BHUBANESWAR: Showcasing a wide variety of handicrafts products on Ganesh, Genesh Utsav, a five-day exclusive exhibition on the Lord was kicked off at the Jayadev Bhawan here on Saturday. The event is being organised by Orissa Rural and Urban producers’ Association (ORUPA), an 18-year-old voluntary organization of the state engaged in promotion of crafts of Orissa. For the past eight years, ORUPA has been hosting such annual exhibitions in the capital, the only of its kind for the state, ahead of the Ganesh puja, informed ORUPA’s marketing executive Ashok Kumar Sahu. The exhibition has a display of nearly 500 types of Ganesh made of 24 types of crafts. It includes pattachitra, palm leaf, terracotta, dhokra casting, appliqué, wood, coir, stone, brass, papier machie and sea shell. The cost of the products range from Rs.35 to Rs.35, 000, informed the organizers. Commissioner of Panchayati Raj Department R.N.Dash inaugurated the exhibition. CAPART’s member convener for the eastern region V.K.Rai and Assistant Director of Handicrafts under the Ministry of Textiles B.M.Mishra informed the artisans about various schemes available for development of artisans.
