Ramesh Chennithala Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala has expressed concern at the Orissa government’s failure to end violence against the Christian community. In a statement here on Saturday, he urged the Centre to effectively intervene in the State, deploy more forces to provide protection to the life and property of Christians. Mr. Chennithala said that a KPCC delegation would meet UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi; Prime Minister Manmohan Singh; and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on September 1 to convey the party’s concern at the continuous violence in Orissa against Malayali priests and nuns and Christian institutions. LDF plans dharnaThe LDF State committee and the CPI(M) State secretariat have strongly condemned the attacks on Christians in Orissa. A resolution adopted by the LDF panel described the attacks ‘a fascist pogrom’ and said the LDF would organise evening dharnas before the Raj Bhavan here and at all district headquarters on September 2 to protest against the attacks.
