THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy said here on Saturday that the attack on the police station at Kottackal and release of accused in a case were the latest instance of political violence and anarchy in the State. In a statement, the Opposition leader said those who attacked the police station belonged to the party of Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Similar incidents had happened in the State several times during the two-and-a-half years of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government. Such incidents were repeated because no action had been taken against those responsible for the previous attacks. Mr. Chandy said the people were concerned since the attackers belonged to a ruling party. None of the 30 Democratic Youth Federation of India [youth wing of the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist)] workers who were involved in the attack had been arrested. Instead, an inquiry had been ordered to find out whether there was any failing on the part of the police officers concerned. This was when three police personnel were hospitalised after they had been beaten up.
