RDO takes over mosque

Staff Reporter

KOTTAKKAL: One person was arrested and many others were being questioned in connection with Friday’s clash at Kuttippuram Juma Masjid, near here, in which two brothers were stabbed to death.

The police said Thayyil Moideenkutty, 57, was arrested on Saturday. The Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) on Saturday took over the mosque, which remained closed after the incident, on the basis of a police report.

District Collector M.C. Mohandas said that the mosque would be in the custody of the authorities until the investigation was completed and normality returned to the region.

The bodies of Pulikkal Aboobacker, 55, and Pulikkal Abdu, 45, were interred at the Kuttipuram Juma Masjid graveyard on Saturday. The ‘janaza’ prayers were held at their home. They were killed in a clash after the Friday prayers following a quarrel over the administration of the mosque. Fifteen others were injured in the clash.
