Ration: LDF plans stir

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) State committee has decided to hold a dharna by MPs, MLAs and State Ministers before Parliament during its coming session to protest against the cut in Kerala’s ration quota.

Front convener Vaikom Viswan told reporters here on Saturday that the dharna would be preceded by two campaign jathas in the State to explain to the people the implications of the Central decision.

Activists of the LDF would also stage dharnas before Central government offices on the day of the dharna before Parliament.

The Centre had more or less cut the State’s entire quota of ration foodgrains leaving the people of Kerala to the mercy of the market.

This was having the twin effect of destroying the State’s public distribution system and fuelling price rise, Mr. Viswan said.
