JAIPUR: Mahindra World City (MWC) IT SEZ has come into existence on a 750-acre land on the Jaipur-Ahmedabad Highway along the National Highway 8. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Friday inaugurated the IT SEZ, which houses companies such as Infosys, Wipro, Nucleus Software and Connexions besides Tech Mahindra Ltd. The IT SEZ forms part of the 2600-acre multi-product SEZ that has light engineering, auto ancillary, handicrafts and logistics zones. Claimed to be the largest planned IT SEZ in the country, it is a joint venture between Mahindra Lifespace Developers Limited and the Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO). The public-private partnership project has 74 per cent equity participation by the Mahindra and 26 per cent by RIICO. MWC, an integrated business city, is expected to lead to investments worth Rs.10,000 crore and generate employment for 1 lakh persons by 2012. It has an ‘eVolve-the GnNxt Park,’ which is spread over a 25-acre area where the office of the international operations of the Deutsche Bank is also located. Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Raje termed the project a milestone at a time when SEZs were facing resistance from the local populations elsewhere in the country. “This investment will change the life of the people of Jaipur and impact future ventures in Rajasthan,” she said complimenting the Mahindra Group, RICCO and the functionaries who worked for its completion in record time. “Mahindra World City, Jaipur, will help create Rajasthan as one of the prime industrial destinations of the country,” said Arun Nanda, executive director, Mahindra and Mahindra. “The project has come up within two years of signing the joint venture agreement due to the tremendous support we received from the State government.” As MWC is along the NH 8, it is expected to have the advantage of proximity to the western ports of India. Currently, the place is buzzing with construction activity round the clock for meeting the schedule of its clients from IT/ITeS, handicraft and light engineering industries.
