“Tamil Nadu must have a National School of Law”

Staff Reporter

MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu government should establish a National School of Law akin to the one to be inaugurated by the President in New Delhi on Wednesday, said Ajit Prakash Shah, Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.

Addressing a gathering at the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court Bar Association on Friday, he urged the Bar members to prevail upon the Government to establish such an institution that should be administered by an autonomous body.

Mr. Justice Shah also said that the Bar should desist from boycotting courts and devise new methods of expressing their disagreement over any issue. They could take peaceful processions or wear white badges on their robes and so on.

“A time has come for the High Court Bar to take a lead. Don’t get carried away by the resolutions passed by the Bar in sub-ordinate courts. By indulging in strike, you are violating Article 21 (protection of life and personal liberty) of the Constitution,” he said.
