Land for Central varsity identified at Tiruvarur

TIRUVARUR: It has become inevitable to acquire private land for establishing the central University at Tiruvarur as adequate poramboke land is not available in the district, Collector M. Chandrasekaran said here on Thursday.
He told presspersons that 70 acres of land had been identified at Perumpugalur and Neelakudi villages near Koradachery for the purpose. A Central team comprising Human Resource Development Ministry officials has to visit the site and give approval.
The team had planned to visit the site on Thursday, but had postponed it, the Collector said.
He also said that most of the land owners had given their consent for acquisition. A few had not given their consent and it would soon be settled.
Meanwhile tenders had been floated for construction of buildings for the Medical College which would start functioning from the next academic year, he said. Land has been identified within the collectorate complex for the proposed medical college.
