Traffic on the Kattappana-Mele Chinnar road was disrupted in the early hours of Saturday when rocks and heaps of earth came crashing down on the road at Eettithoppu. Police and Fire and Rescue Services personnel cleared the road and traffic was restored later in the day. The condition of the injured who were admitted to a private hospital at Kattappana was stated to be out of danger, the police said. The injured were identified as Kochukamakshi Plathottathil Eliyamma, 70; Eettithoppe Vayasanparambil Unni,14; and Chempalam Chirayil Kunjamma, 50. The landslip-affected areas are Kalkunthal, Erattayar, Eettithoppe, Chakkakanam, Ezhukumvayal and Nedumkandam. Heavy rain continued to lash the district on Saturday and landslips were reported from various places in Erttayar panchayat. The Erattayar check-dam has been filled to capacity. The Udumpanchola tahsildar visited the landslip-hit areas. Cultivation in nearly 100 of acres of land has been destroyed in the landslips, sources said.
