KOCHI: The faction owing allegiance to Vinayan, director, has decided to boycott the elections to the directors and writers’ union of the Malayalam Cine Technicians Association (MACTA) Federation. M. Mohan and Baiju Kottarakkara, directors, said here on Saturday that they were boycotting the elections following the alleged attempts made by the group affiliated to Siddique, director, to take over the federation. Mr. Mohan alleged that their rival faction was trying to seek the support of the leadership of the All India Film Employees’ Confederation and the Film Employees’ Federation of South India. He said the decision to collect a deposit of Rs. 25,000 for granting voting rights for members was part of the move made by the rival faction to take control of the organisation. The ad-hoc committee of the federation has said that the elections to the 12 unions will be held at Sacred Heart High School at Thevara on September 6 and 7.
