Prannoy, Daya Elsa in semifinals

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Top seeds H.S. Prannoy (Tvm) and Daya Elsa Jacob (Ekm) moved into the semifinals of the R. Rajashekaran Memorial State junior badminton championships at the Sri Moolam Club, here on Saturday.

Prannoy defeated Ravi Shankar (Ekm) 21-7, 21-16 in the quarterfinals. Third seed N.R. Renjith of Thrissur was toppled by Vishnu Prasad (Kzde) 21-16, 14-21, 21-18 in the quarterfinals, while second-seeded Neeraj Rahiman took his appointed place in the semifinals.

Easy win

In the girls’ section, Daya Elsa Jacob scored an easy 21-12, 21-10 win over Anusha (Kzde) to move into the semifinals. Anjali Maria Sunil, Arathi Sara Sunil and Linimol completed the semifinal line-up.

The results: Boys singles: Quarterfinals: H.S. Prannoy (Tvm) bt Ravi Shankar (Ekm) 21-7, 21-16; Dilshad (Ekm) bt R.J. Anand (Tvm) 21-13, 21-15; Neeraj Rahiman (Kzde) bt Sanjith (Tsr) 21-15, 21-12; Vishnu Prasad (Kzde) bt N.R. Renjith (Tsr) 21-16, 14-21, 21-18.

Girls singles: Quarterfinals: Daya Elsa Jacob (Ekm) bt Anusha (Kzde) 21-12, 21-10; Anjali Maria Sunil (Ekm) bt Malavika Mathan (Tvm) 21-13, 21-13; Arathi Sara Sunil (Ekm) bt Neethu Ninan (Tvm) 21-15, 21-15; P.S. Linimol (Tsr) bt Sneha Narendran (Tvm) 21-19, 18-21, 21-13.

Doubles: Semifinals: Megha Merin & Linimol bt C. Neethu & Nanditha Krishna 21-13, 21-11; Anjali Maria & Arathi Sara Sunil bt Daya Elsa Jacob & Neethu Ninan 21-14, 21-17.

LNCPE in last four

Host LNCPE, St. Joseph’s College (Tiruchi) and Jamal Mohd. College (Tiruchi) entered the semifinals of the sixth Mayor Dhyan Chand Memorial South India inter-collegiate hockey tournament, here on Saturday.

St. Joseph’s thrashed The American College (Maduari) 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Jamal Mohd. crushed Bharata Mata College (Kochi) 6-0 and LNCPE overcame Maharaj’s College (Ernakulam) 3-0 in the other quarterfinal matches.

St. John’s College (Palayamkottai) entered the quarterfinals after a 5-0 win over St. Albert’s College (Ernakulam).
