New Tamil Nadu standing counsel
New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Government has appointed A. Mariarputham as standing Counsel to represent the State in the Supreme Court. He will look after the portfolios handled by V.G. Pragasam, who resigned earlier this month. Mr. Mariarputham has been a standing counsel for Tamil Nadu between 1993 and 2001. He has been a panel lawyer for the Union of India in the Supreme Court from 1984 onwards and appeared in a number of important cases for the Union of India/assisted Law Officers.
Advocate S. Thananjayan has also been appointed standing counsel for the State to look after the portfolios handled by T. Harishkumar, who too resigned this month. R. Nedumaran will continue to be another State counsel to look after cases of certain departments.
