‘Alert authorities to suspicious deals’

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has called upon the public to be vigilant against irregular land transactions.

Speaking after inaugurating a multi-storeyed building constructed for the Kizhuvilam grama panchayat, near here, on Saturday, he urged the public to inform the authorities about any suspicious land deals.

Waste management

He stressed the need for local self-government institutions to focus on solid waste management.

Mr. Achuthanandan reminded local bodies of their role in implementing the act preventing the reclamation of paddy fields and wetlands.

He exhorted them to be wary of land bank promoters and real estate developers who buy up small plots and resell them as big chunks to make a huge profit.

Concerted effort

“It takes a concerted effort involving elected representatives, officials and the general public to ensure a corruption- free and efficient local administration”, he said.

Anathalavattam Anandan MLA presided.

District panchayat member Rajan Babu, block panchayat president K. Shaji, vice-president S.V. Anilal, Kizhuvilam Service Cooperative Bank president Viswanathan Nair and grama panchayat president V.S. Kannan were present.

The three-storey building was constructed at a cost of Rs.30 lakh.
