56,200 apply for inclusion

PUDUKOTTAI: A total of 56,200 new applications have been received in six Assembly segments in the district for inclusion in the photo electoral roll, observer for special revision of poll rolls Hitesh Kumar Makwana said.

Presiding over an official meeting for reviewing the progress of the special revision of photo electoral rolls here on Thursday, Mr. Makwana said that a maximum of 12,671 applications had been received in the Tirumayam Assembly segment, followed by 11,643 in Pudukottai; 9,932 in Aranthangi; 9,364 in Alankudi; 7,607 in Viralimalai and 4,983 applications in the Gandarvakottai Assembly segment.

He advised election officials to process the applications and include all the eligible applicants without delay and release an error-free photo electoral roll.

Earlier, accompanied by the District Collector Reeta Harish Thakkar, conducted a random survey on the door-to-door verification of the electoral roll in Kamarajapuram and at the Government Employees Quarters at Alankulam. He verified the name and address of the voters and cross-checked their identity with the photo electoral rolls.

He also ensured that the stickers had been pasted on the houses on completion of verification of voters names in these areas.
