TIRUVARUR: Those who install Ganesha idols and take them in procession for immersion after Vianayaka Chathurthi which falls on September 3 in Tiruvarur district should get prior permission from the police and revenue authorities before August 31, said the Collector M. Chandrasekaran, here on Thursday. Idol safety CommitteeHe told presspersons that an idol safety committee with 20 members should be formed by the organisers and atleast five of the members should stand guard at the places where the idols are installed. The idols should be immersed only in sites identified by the district administration.The idols should be taken in procession in the routes approved by the police. Only idols made in clay should be used. Permitted vehicles alone should take part in the procession, the Collector said. PudukottaiThe district administration has notified eight centres for the immersion of Ganapathy idols in relation to the Vinayaka Chathurthi festival. In a press release issued here on Saturday, the Collector Reeta Harish Thakkar said that the Pudukulam in the town has been notified for the immersion of the idols from Pudukottai. Notified placesThe following is the list of other water-bodies for the corresponding areas : Sengai tank in Ponpudupatti for Ponnamaravathy area; Chettikulam and Kambankadu Muthu tank for Alankudi; Veeramakali Amman temple tank for Aranthangi; South Udayarpuram tank for Panankulam; Mookarai Pillayar temple tank and Vadakadu Sakthi Vinayagar South Bazaar Mookarai Pillayar temple tank for Pullichankadu Kaikatti and Anavayal areas. The Collector said that the idols to be immersed should be made of clay without any chemicals. Idols decorated with paints should not be immersed in these water-bodies. In the coastal areas, the idols should be taken at least to a distance of 500 metres from the shore, the release added.
